Annual Well Woman's Exam

An annual gynecological exam is integral to a woman's well being. It consists of a complete medical history, blood pressure and weight check, a urine test to screen for infections, a blood test to check the iron level, a breast exam, pelvic exam and a Pap smear. The Pap smear is a screening for abnormal cells on the cervix than can lead to cancer. Tests for various sexually transmitted diseases can be done at this time.

Teen Services

A teen 17 or under can receive her first well woman exam at a greatly reduced price and three months of birth control for free. Birth control supplies and future exams are offered at deeply discounted fees. Call 724-5557 for more information and to make an appointment.

Birth Control

We offer complete instructions on all the birth control methods. Low cost birth control supplies can be purchased by our patients. We have condoms, diaphragms, birth control pills, the patch (Ortho Evra), IUDs and Depo Provera injections. At the time of your annual exam or abortion, we can help you find a method that is right for you.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency Contraception is a safe, effective method of birth control you can use up to five days after you have had unprotected sex. But, the sooner you take it, the better! For this reason, Planned Parenthood recommends having a supply on hand just in case. EC is now an over the counter product for those 18 and older (and by prescription for those under 18) and available to all women at Planned Parenthood Health Centers. You may want to use Emergency Contraception if: His condom broke or slipped off You missed two or more birth control pills Your diaphragm or cervical cap slipped out of place You weren't using any birth control You were forced to have unprotected vaginal sex EC is also called post-coital or "morning-after" contraception. EC will only be effective if a woman is not already pregnant. It does not affect an existing pregnancy. Emergency Contraception is not Mifepristone (the "Abortion Pill") and it does not cause an abortion.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Screening

We provide tests for and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) like gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, and HPV or genital warts. Tests are available for both men & women. Many STDs do not have any symptoms and most are easily treated but undetected, STDs can pose serious threats to a woman's future fertility.

Anonymous HIV/AIDS Testing

We provide anonymous (no names are recorded) HIV/AIDS counseling and testing to both women and men. We now have both blood tests for HIV as well as an oral swab called Orasure to test for the virus that causes AIDS. Information and referrals are also available.

Colposcopy and Cryotheraphy

If you have had one or more abnormal Pap test result, you may be advised to have a colposcopy, a special exam that allows a closer look at your cervix. At PPRHS we perform colposcopies and also cryotherapy, a procedure in which abnormal cervical tissue is frozen. For fees and more information please call us at (706) 724 - 5557.

Permanent Birth Control for Women & Men

The number one method of contraception in the United States is surgical sterilization. Women and men choosing this method must be sure that they do not want anymore children as reversal is costly and not always successful. However, surgical sterilization is safe and effective. The costs include the physician's fee, medication, counseling, clinic fees and a follow up visit. Your insurance company or medicaid may pay for the procedure. Call us for more information.

Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation

This is permanent birth control for women. If your family is complete, you may be interested in this safe, simple procedure that does not change your body's hormonal balance or your feelings as a woman. It is performed under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. A small incision is made near the navel and each fallopian tube is sealed. Two to four stitches close the incision and you will then spend time in the recovery room. A friend or relative can then drive you home.

No Scalpel Vasectomy

This is permanent birth control for men that is safe and far less invasive than conventional vasectomy as it consists of only one small puncture to reach the vas deferens and seal them. Vasectomy is not castration but rather only interupts the tubes that carry sperm from the testes to where they are added to the semen. All hormonal functions are completely unaffected and your interest in sex will remain the same. A vasectomy is performed under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. Recovery time is quick and discomfort is minimal. You will need two post surgical semen tests to be sure no sperm remain.
